  2. Note the times in your life when you felt the worst.
  3. Extrapolate the values from your best and worst times, and place them in a “matrix-style format.”
  4. Record every value you find important, such as hard work, generosity, fun, self-reliance, loyalty or tolerance.
  5. Group your key values by themes. For example, values such as “learning, growth and development” fall under one theme.
  6. Pick one value from each group that represents the theme.
  7. Create subsets to include every value you find worthwhile.
